This is a link to the Northwest labor Press and an article outlining how PPS is still going after the custodian jobs. Please read it. It seems now students will be paid miniumum wage to clean the schools, and that this may even become an "appreticeship or internship program." Of course this is at the cost of custodians losing their full time jobs. Sarah Carlin Ames seems to think this "could tie nicely into our Career Pathways work experience program." Just a couple questions came to mind here. First, will this be available to students at Lincoln, Wilson and Grant...or just those schools where throw-away kids are seeking such career paths....say Jefferson, Roosevelt, or Madison? Also, I wondered if custodian jobs are expendable in such a manner, how about Ms. Ames' job. I know a few kids who could do her job as interns...Wow! I might even go after that myself...great career training....Hmmm...Is this a possibility?

17Jul08 CivilServiceBoardMeeting

I went to the meeting and once again it looks like PPS wants to put the finacial burden on the backs of the Janitors.
